Source: Harm Reduction Ohio analysis of Ohio Department of Health mortality data, October 5, 2022

Ohio has 88 counties. These have the worst overdose death rates as of October 5, 2022.
Worth noting:
  • The list skews heavily toward rural Appalachian counties in southeast Ohio.
  • Vinton, which has the highest overdose death rate this year, is located in Appalachia and has the smallest population of any Ohio county.
  • Several urban counties (Mahoning, Franklin, Montgomery) make the list. This reflects increasing overdose death among Black males and the growth of fentanyl in the cocaine supply.
