Ohio has 88 counties. These have the worst overdose death rates as of October 5, 2022.
Worth noting:
- The list skews heavily toward rural Appalachian counties in southeast Ohio.
- Vinton, which has the highest overdose death rate this year, is located in Appalachia and has the smallest population of any Ohio county.
- Several urban counties (Mahoning, Franklin, Montgomery) make the list. This reflects increasing overdose death among Black males and the growth of fentanyl in the cocaine supply.
