A Day in the Life: HRO’s naloxone shipping operation in action

Harm Reduction Ohio (HRO) is hiring three people to work in our statewide naloxone distribution program.

The positions are:

  • Naloxone Distribution Specialists. ¬†Naloxone specialists package and ship of naloxone. The pay is $15 to $20 per hour, depending on experience. Two part-time specialists will be hired.
  • Naloxone Distribution Manager The naloxone manager handles organizational and administrative tasks for the entire program. The manager also serves as a back-up shipper. The pay is $18 to $25 per hour, depending on experience.

HRO Naloxone Program

Thousands of kits shipped for Overdose Awareness Day.

HRO distributes 40,000 naloxone kits a year, plus other harm reduction supplies such as fentanyl test strips. We ship harm reduction supplies every day, fulfilling orders placed online and requests from our network of 400+ volunteer naloxone lay distributors.

HRO’s naloxone program reverses about 4,000 overdoses every year. This is important, meaningful work. We are the Ohio Department of Health’s largest Project DAWN program.

Job Location and Benefits

The naloxone work is done in person from our shipping office located above the River Road Coffee Shop at 935 River Road, Granville, Ohio 43023. Our office is in central Ohio, 25 miles east of Columbus. Reliable transportation is required to get to work and deliver packages to the post office.

The naloxone distribution specialist position pays $15 to $20 an hour. The naloxone manager job pays $18 to $25 per hour. Both jobs also come with paid time off, a small health benefit and a match to retirement account contributions.

Hours are flexible in coordination with other staffers, consistent with the need to fulfill all naloxone requests within 24 hours.

In the next few months, Harm Reduction Ohio will hire five regional naloxone coordinators located around Ohio. These regional naloxone coordinators will help lead a dedicated effort to improve naloxone distribution to underserved communities and populations.
