Harm Reduction Ohio public health fellow Sydney Tavens updated our list of all Syringe Services Programs (SSP) in Ohio. The new list of the 22 counties with syringe programs (sometimes called “needle exchanges”) includes updated days and times when each program is open, plus current locations and services offered.
Services now listed include:
- HIV/Hep C testing.
- Narcan/Naloxone distribution.
- Fentanyl test strips.
- Counseling referrals and Peer support.
- Immunizations.
The expanded list features a new map that shows all counties that have syringe programs, including the newest syringe program, which opened in Hancock County (Findlay) in July.
Hyperlinks are embedded in the expanded list providing links to each syringe program, when available. These links can be used to find contact information, services not covered in the list, date/time changes, and more.
Harm Reduction Ohio’s syringe program list, last updated in the summer of 2020, is the second most visited page on our web site. Only the ordering page for naloxone generates more internet traffic.
The expanded list was created by Sydney Tavens, a fourth year student at The Ohio State University. Sydney, a Westerville, Ohio, native, is earning dual degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. Her work for Harm Reduction Ohio is a College of Public Health Capstone Project, required to get field experience in public health.
